David assumed the role of Bursar in January 2021 having previously held a number of senior roles within both the private and public sectors.  

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of St Andrews and both a masters and doctorate from the University of Southampton, David began his working career in Hospitality and Leisure with Whitbread plc, working primarily on the early expansion of the Costa Coffee brand post acquisition. His experience of developing and translating strategy into delivery, soon led to senior strategy-based roles with the Law Society and the Serious Organised Crime Agency.  Following London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, David joined the executive team of the UK Sports Council for the Beijing, London and Rio quads, ultimately being promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2011.

To spend more time with his family David took a role closer to home with the University of Sussex in 2015 as Director of Planning & Performance, with leadership responsibility for the professional staff supporting the University’s eleven Schools of Study. David is married to Vicky with two children who are growing up far too quickly.
