Our Nursery supports every child’s growth by establishing a caring environment in which they feel secure, confident, and inspired to learn about themselves and the world. Our focus is on hands-on learning that develops independence and helps children grow, intellectually and emotionally.
We know that happy children are more likely to be keen learners as they progress through School. With small class sizes and highly qualified staff, we are able to focus on the individual, helping them find themselves in a community of nurture, appropriate challenge and inspiration.
The Nursery Day
Our day is organised into four sessions, with flexibility around start and finish times to meet parents’ needs.
- 8.15am – 11.15am: Morning Session, with a break at around 10am for a healthy snack and drink
- 11.15am – 12.45pm: Lunch Session, including a delicious lunch cooked on site and served in the Dining Hall, with staff on hand to encourage good table manners. After children have eaten, we have a rest time in which they nap, read stories or play quietly
- 12.45pm – 3.45pm: Afternoon Session, involving more activities to stimulate a breadth of learning
- 3.45pm – 5.00pm: Pre-Prep Stay and Play Session, for parents who need a later pick-up time
We make full use of our beautiful grounds to provide adventure, stimulation and entertainment. Our children enjoy the familiar environment of the Nursery, but we regularly venture into the wider School site and beyond, visiting historic locations in Sherborne to enhance learning.
We provide Maths and Phonics activities every day and children are encouraged to “mark make” as a way of developing writing and drawing skills. This supports self-expression, growing their confidence and sowing seeds for their future development.
We draw on subject specialists from the School community to deliver a wide range of activities in areas such as:
- PE and Gymnastics
