Lest We Forget

Nov 12th 2019

We have found increasing interest amongst the children in Remembrance and, this year, we split our services between a Remembrance Assembly and the Act of Remembrance at 11am. In Assembly, two children, Caio and Rosanna, read their own excellent war poetry, and Year 4 sang beautifully following delightful solos from Cosmo, Esme and Luke. We discussed why we have such remembrance occasions and the reason for wearing poppies. Jasper played the Last Post and Caio played Reveille following our silence. Our Head Girl, Laura and our Head Boy, Oliver, then read the names of the Old Preppers who fell in the wars, a tradition of the School. The prefects then planted our ceramic poppies along the rose arch. On Sunday our boarders looked smart and observed the Sherborne ceremony at the memorial outside the Abbey. Ana and James laid a wreath on behalf of the School. If you haven’t already come across it, do read the thoughtful article in the Sherborne Times written by Richard Pyman and Al Poulain, which reflects on the Battlefield Tours that they undertook with our Year 7 children.
