Sport is an important part of the curriculum - it is true that a healthy body means a healthy mind. Sport provides a balance between mental and physical exercise and enhances team spirit and the sense of community that is at the heart of Sherborne Prep.
Our ethos of sport is that all children are encouraged to participate and are supported and guided by enthusiastic, talented coaches, all working to help your child reach his or her full potential. The range of activities offered gives children the opportunity to represent the school in both team and individual sports, allowing them to shine in a number of different arenas.
Our team of dedicated coaches ensure that the children enjoy a rich programme of Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Football, Athletics, Cricket, Tennis & Rounders, and have the opportunity to take up a number of other sports in our clubs programme, including Fencing, Gymnastics, Karate, American Football, Badminton, Fitness, Judo, Golf & Riding.
We are continually developing our sport curriculum, expanding the number of sports on offer and focusing on improving fitness and stamina across the school. So much talent can be seen in our children today and we are dedicated to nurturing this and providing an excellent start to each child's school sporting career.
However, Sport is about so much more than competitive success. Although we are naturally delighted with our many triumphs on the pitch or court, and we applaud our county and national level players in a range of sporting disciplines, we also focus on teambuilding, leadership skills, gamesmanship, and instilling our core values in the children. We emphasise the importance of kindness, perseverance, awareness, generosity, honesty and independence in all that we do in our games and PE lessons, and in matches.
The gallery of photographs (on the right) will give you a flavour of our sports participation, and I think the enjoyment that our pupils gain from being active is very evident!
