Match reports for Wednesday 30 May

Cricket

U9/8A v Dumpton

Lost by 70 runs

Some early hitting saw Dumpton off to a flier. With too many leg-side balls and some dropped catches they looked set for a big total. In the second part of the innings our bowling was tighter and we began to take wickets with a couple of fine catches by Will C. Facing a challenging but achievable target Eddie F and Jesse M again provided a solid start but after this the team struggled to connect with the wider balls and were not able to keep up with the run-rate. Will C and Dom T both played some good shots but for the first time this season wickets fell under pressure and the game was lost.

U9/8B v Dumpton

Won by 45 runs.

Once again the main difference between the two teams was the number of 'outs'. The boys defended their wickets well and hit up few catching opportunities. Some of the bowling remains rather wayward at times but I note a significant improvement of late. In the field we chase the ball well and eturn throws to the wicket were usually accurate. Much development is apparent - as is a good team spirit. Very encouraging all round

Rounders

1st v Dumpton

The U8s had a super afternoon of Rounders against Dumptons 14 U8s, The girls played 2 innings and Dumpton split into 2 teams with 1 innigs each. Sherborne batted 1st and found it hard to hit the ball with quite a few no balls bowled at them, but ended up scoring 2 1/2 with 1 whole rounder from Florence T and 2 halfs from Saskia. Dumpton set off at a mighty pace and scored 2 1/2 in 6 balls, Sherborne then settled and had tighter fielding to only let then score another 1. The second innings Sherborne were more alert and thinking about scoring half rounders from their weaker fielding and Florence again scored 2 whole rounders taking Sherborne final score to 8. Dumpton steadily took advantage of Sherborne's lack of concentration and weaker fielding and ended up with a total of 8.5. Olivia bowled consistently in the 1st Innings and Florence T fielded well with strong accurate throws in the 2nd innings. A super and very evenly matched afternoon for everyone. Well done!
