We invited 9 children and their teachers from Yewstock School to come and visit the Prep School and to spend some time with our year 5 children and to watch our play.
Yewstock School is a day community school for children with profound and multiple (PMLD), Severe (SLD), Moderate (MLD) or complex learning difficulties. Some children have additional sensory or physical impairments, speech and language disorders or medical needs; others are statemented as being within the autistic spectrum. This amazing school provides for 131 children and students between the ages of 2 and 19 years.
The Yewstock school children had been learning about the story of 'The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe', so we asked them if they would like to come and watch our senior play about it and then join us for lunch afterwards. Some of our Year 5 children were asked to greet the Yewstock children and take them in to watch the performance.
The 9 Yewstock children were mesmerised throughout the performance and were so quiet while they sat and watched the whole 1 hour 15 minute show. After that they went outside to play, before joining our Year 5 children for a cooked lunch. Both sets of children behaved impeccably and both schools were so proud of them, we hope this will just be the beginning of the link between our two schools. As they were getting on their mini bus to leave, one boy from Yewstock School said that it had been the best day of his life!
