Welcome to the Music Department's webpage. Here you will find all the information on what is happening in the Department. What do we believe about music education? * Music must be fun * All children have the right to reach their musical potential * Music teaches children many additional life skills * High and consistent expectations equal high achievement We believe that children should be given as many possibilities to perform as possible. There are regular concerts throughout the year, both formal and informal, as well as opportunities to perform at venues outside the school. The Music Department currently runs ensembles including Senior and Junior Jazz Bands, Senior and Junior Orchestra, Senior and Junior Strings, Brass, Flute, Guitar, and two Choirs.

Charles Hazlewood Project |
Sony Award winning conductor Charles Hazlewood and Sherborne Prep's Director of Music, Ellen Velazquez, led a series of workshops for pupils of Sherborne Prep School culminating in a modern day mystery play, told through music, based upon The Dream of the Rood, an Anglo-Saxon poem considered to be the most beautiful mystical dream poem in English literature. The pupils and parents all joined in an inspirational and uplifting performance, which raised the roof and rounded off a busy, active and vibrant term for the children. The workshop was also filmed for a BBC4 programme about Charles Hazlewood and his work. Hazlewood also hosts Radio 2's The Charles Hazlewood Show and Radio 3's Discovering Music. |

Our diverse range of soloists and music groups gave another outstanding performance at the End of Term Concert on Saturday morning |

Our very own Maria Trkulja teamed up with Lawrence Tubb to thrill pupils, parents and staff with a performance of show tunes that would not have sounded out of place at an Andrew Lloyd-Webber audition. Maria sang a selection of her favourite songs from Les Miserables to Chicago along with some lesser known songs, including The Girl in 14G, which she dedicated to her own form, 4G. The children were so delighted with the performance they queued up for Maria's autograph at the end of the performance! Maria is a classicly trained singer with a passion for musical theatre and will take the helm as Head of Drama at The Prep in September. Lawrence Tubb is a former repetiteur with the English National Ballet and is currently the Director of Music at Leweston School, starting a new post at Wycombe Abbey School in September. |
