Our School is an Eco-School

Sherborne Prep is a Green Flag School, which is the highest award for promoting care of the environment.

The Eco-Schools Programme aims to promote environmentally aware schools throughout the UK and gives the children a chance to make a difference. It is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and also operates in 43 different countries.

The whole school family is fully involved and the Eco Committee is made up of pupils and staff. They meet up to discuss ways to improve and maintain our environmental awareness.

Sherborne Prep School Eco Code

  • Recycle all waste paper and cardboard in the school
  • Turn off lights, shut doors, close windows
  • Do not drop litter. Pick up litter and recycle
  • Put green waste in the green bin at break time
  • Walk, cycle or scooter to school if you live in town
  • Use the school bus. Share a lift with another family
  • Turn off taps
  • Treat the garden with care
  • Do not waste food
  • Share these ideas with your family

We are the first school in the area to participate in a pilot scheme to recycle all our food waste. The food waste is collected by Dorset County Council and taken to Eco-Composting in Dorset, where the food waste is made into compost and then used to grow turf.

If you have any comments or ideas please get in touch with us, the Eco Committee would love to hear from you.
