Sherborne Prep School was first established in 1858 by the Reverend A C Clapin, at that stage a Housemaster at Sherborne School who was asked by the Headmaster, Hugo Harper to start a junior house. From these humble beginnings the School continued to grow until another Sherborne Housemaster, WH Blake, purchased the current site in 1885 and established the school as a fully independent Prep School.
Sherborne Prep is now a thriving school for girls and boys from 2 years to 13 years old. The Pre-Prep has a secure, self-contained site within the School for two to six year olds, which at the same time allows the younger children to take advantage of many of the facilities available to the Prep School children. The Pre-Prep enjoys a well-deserved reputation that offers a varied and exciting curriculum within a caring, friendly environment. The Prep provides day and boarding and while boarding numbers are not large, boarding remains at the heart of The Prep, in ethos and in practice. The children in the boarding houses are the envy of many day pupils who look forward to making use of the flexible boarding on offer in a warm, friendly, family atmosphere.
Sherborne Prep is seen as one of the leading schools in the South West of England and a leader in curriculum change. We take pride in encouraging all children to enjoy the challenge and excitement of learning. The fact that our pupils have won 72 awards and scholarships in the last four years, while no-one has failed to get into the school of their choice for over ten years, is an important by-product of the quality of education that is offered by the School.
